Relationships

Our fellow human beings are our mirror! What we particularly like in others is what we also love within
ourselves. What we don't like about others, we also reject within ourselves. We will encounter same people over and over until we have learned this lesson. When we are ready, people in our lives will change accordingly, or will disappear from our environment, others will take their place. This may sound hard, but it is unfortunately true. Isn't it true that other people frequently live out what we don't permit ourselves to do? Some people annoy us with their behavior. Perhaps they are premature in their judgments, verbally attack others, are hurtful in their thoughtlessness, don't really listen, make us nervous with their restlessness, think they know it all better, are mistrusting - the list is almost endless. How do we act and react? For quite some time now, I have been trying to decode the messages conveyed to me through other people for myself. How am I? How do I behave? What impression do I make on others? In doing this, I get to know myself better and have the opportunity to change. Sometimes we are afraid of other people and their reactions, which is why we let ourselves be manipulated and exploited. Or, by being on "good behavior" and serving others, we want to make them love us.

Disinfecting a Cake

A man finds a cake left open in the kitchen late at night. What would he do?

The paranoia in him, takes him to the land of cockroaches. That wakes up the logician in him. He scraps out the outer layers of the cake. Still not happy with his work of 'art', he decides to disinfect the cake. And how does he decide to do it?

Running...

A scene in one of the movies I watched recently caught my attention....

In this movie, the protagonist's wife keeps repeating, "Naadodumbol, Naduve oodanam". This saying roughly translates to - Keep up with the general trend.

One day our protagonist just loses it and screams out.... Something like this... "Why are you so obsessed with running? If you are so interested in running, why don't you do it in the courtyard!"

Yes! I know.... :-)

On another note, I feel... Unless you are ready
to stop, please don't even think about slowing your pace. It is extremely difficult to pick up the pace if you take even the slightest pause.

Live Music

That day, I went to be there for him & her. They were singing & I wanted to be part of it. The activities of that day(or was it days?) were not encouraging enough. It neither brought a smile on my face nor did it motivate me to move my lazy bones. Well, when it was time... I just decided to leave my personal things aside to go & watch them.

There was a huge crowd & I did not get any space to sit. While I was leaning on the door, I hear them strum their guitars and a group of 30 or more children broke into a song.

Ooooo... I just cannot explain the effect. It was amaaaazing... :-) Thank you my dear ones for giving me the opportunity to be part of something for the first time. Mmmmmuah!

Kiddo... we should do this together sometime... Missed you... >:(<

Malang

Ever since I made this my new status I have been asked, 'What is Malang?'. Well... here is the story...

I came across this word while listening to the promos of the song 'Malang' from the movie Dhoom 3. The line that caught my attention was
"Malang malang dum ishq ishq hai malang mera"

And.... I go in search of Malang... :-)

As for its meaning... This is what I have decided to pick up...
"it's more or less about someone who doesn't much care about his surroundings"

PS.
After bumping into this word, I noticed that it features in many of the songs. I like this one in particular... Dhunki... I just love the way they go...
"O Malang Hua
Dil Ye Mera
Hai Mast Malang Hua
Dil Ye Mera"

DAVID KANDA PENKUTTY A MALAYALAM SHORT FILM

I have read the blog post. I never realized its social impact until I saw this video. The impact of a casual comment, 'Aval sheri alla'!

All I can say is, I was really lucky to have in my life, at least one person, who saw beyond these comments & genuinely took the initiative to know the real me.

Girl's Things

Kiddo : Why do you look at girl's things???

Asks Kiddo to my guy friend who was ogling at a lady wearing a skirt. She was an attractive lady. And he being a typical male... went on to verbally expressing 'everything' he liked about that lady!

Do I have a feminist in the family? Or was she just curious?

PS.
Yes! His wife was rolling on floor laughing!

Hold Me......

Everyone has their own comfort grip... where they feel safe & secure... And I learn that when he holds me.... :-)

Nila Adhu Vanathin Mele

It is amazing what all joblessness can do to one. A few days back, I was smitten(again) by the 'feel' found in Tamil songs. I ping a Tamil friend of mine & I rant about my frustration in unable to understand the meaning of Tamil songs. I just feel great listening to them. But I have no understanding of the lyrics ever.

Two good things (according to me) came out of our conversation. One, I need to find a Tamil Brahmin for a boy friend. I do not remember how we narrowed down to the Brahmin category, but for now I would settle for their yummy idli/dosa & sambar... O:-)

Second, I bumped into this 'matter' song... :-D

Well, thanks to another friend of mine, I was able to get the English translation of the lines. As she says, "This song is the perfect example of a cheap, double-meaning crammed anthem of vulgarity :D". Well... now we know what 'matter' song means... ;-)

Before we move to the translation... I want to remind the other set of people who have promised me to give the English translation for some songs. Let this work inspire you... Moreover, this process will be a good break from the routine... ;-) O:-)

Nilaa adhu vaanathu mela //Moon is up in the sky

Sibling Ready!!

"Don't show me your tummy, okay?"

I was alerted by certain keywords & tone issued by Kiddo. My eyes move over the magazine I was flipping through to see whats going on. And even before I knew, my lips were breaking into a smile.

Kiddo was helping her 5yr old friend. He was struggling with his shirt's buttons. That was when Kiddo decides to help him out. And.... I do my bit of time travel.......

I found it extremely interesting... the manner in which Kiddo had evolved with this family. How she slowly accepted them as part of the family. The manner in which she grew into an elder sister... :-) Yes! When she is hungry and/or sleepy.... it is a completely different story. But... the way she has changed...... It was a slow change... but she did change... :-)

And now... she is ready for a sibling......

Kiddo... I will be challenging a whole lot of things... but... as soon as we acquire more bandwidth.... we shall give it a try... I really hope you will stand by me till the end... something this huge... I will not be able to pull off without your support.......

Me {waiting for my enlightenment}: No...
Kiddo : MUD!!!!

Stumped yet again!!!

Bits of paper

I remember mom passing this comment on my brother...

"Even from a very young age, he just doesn't spare even the tiniest bit of paper. He has to read it!"

Looks like I need to customize that for Kiddo! ;-) O:-)

How did you learn?

Recently I had to baby sit my friend's children along with Kiddo. The youngest was the first to wake up from the afternoon nap. While I was feeding her meal, the baby's elder brother wakes up & walks towards us.
Watching me feed the baby, he asks in full surprise....

"How did you learn to feed her??"

Gyan of the Day

"The joy of life is love. When you are loved, you feel empowered within. Everyone lives for loving someone and to be loved by someone. It is love alone that makes you wake up in the morning. It is love that motivates sacrifice. Without love, life is nothing. Whatever you desire, the core is love...the force is love."

Gee... :-D

More Men

Kiddo {while on bus}: Men are lazy thats why there are more men.
Me {stumped}: What what what???
Kiddo {irritated with my ignorance}: Men are lazy & they don't want to do work at home. So they go out of the house and roam around. Thats why buses have more men in them than women!!

Thanks to the men in her life!! What I loved was the specific area men prefer being lazy.... "work at home"... hee hee... B-)

Poll Question

I had sent this poll question to a couple of close friends of mine...
"On a scale of 1-10, 1 being least, how difficult a person am I?? To be with??"

And the best answer so far....
Its erratic. Some times no communication from your side makes you a difficult person to communicate from 7 to 2.  Others have to go beyond their ego to talk to you, which very few people will do.

Now you know why I still hang around with you ;-) :-D

Mirror

Kiddo {during her 'private' time}: Amma.... Why do girls look at the mirror?
Me {racking my brains for some answer}: Err... Hmmm....
Kiddo : You are a girl... You are a mother... You should be knowing... Why do u think girls always look at the mirror??

Well... from what I know... its not just girls who keep glancing up the mirror whenever they get a chance.

Applies to Mallu Men too

She {with her version of Krishna smile}: You are not exactly what I expected you to be.

On a regular day, I lose it when I hear such statements... needn't be about me in particular. But about anything & anyone. Fortunately, both of us were in a good mood and I ended up asking the right set of questions. It was a rather long trail.

Her impression started changing after a chat she had with me one day. This chat was not a self initiated one. We were two girls in a confined space for a rather long time. That was when she decided to give ME a chance inspite of what she heard about me.

I am a person who normally doesn't get shaken by such statements or opinions about me. So, I am not much worried about all the elements in this rather long trail. But what came as a shocker was the source. That was truly Evil.

Maybe one day... when I grow up... I remember to understand why Evil is evil. The opening lines of this article is dedicated to Evil.

Smaller Than.....

Kiddo {in her typical squeaky excited voice}: Amma!! You have become small. Your face is smaller than your body now! It looks chuntu now.

Okkay!! Now I have two people who are excited about my overall weight loss... :-/

No! I have no intention of working on your suggested 6 packs.... How about a healthier me? No more weight loss for me. Only a more flexible me... O:-) Lets see... we have time till xmas vacation... ;-)

Another Vacation Comes to an End

Normally... two days before the vacation gets over... greys set in. But this vacation seems to be one of a
kind. I was not even worried about the bus ride :-)

When the bus was zipping past my home town.... with my favorite FM channel playing wonderful songs in the background and me watching the rains... all I could feel was... :-) This vacation seem to have the right amount of everything in it. And when it was over.... I was neither sad nor happy... I was more on the lines of being content........ :-)

Lets just hope the feeling sustains & I tackle whatever is thrown at me with the same calmness....

Guyz... Thank you.... :-):-*

Friendz

Me : Amma.... A bunch of crazy people are meeting up. I will be late by the time I am back.
Amma : This lunch plan... All this has to be your doing!!

And I walk away with a sly grin... :-)

When we(friends from college) had met up on during the week, we had decided, if I am in town during the weekend.. we would all meet up and we will rope in more people.

And.... I was in the city during the weekend and we met up for lunch. I have no idea how long we were there... but I had an amazing time.... The only expression I have now is a mile long :-)

Broaden your view

He : Ooooo... So thats whats causing this traffic jam
Ninno (thats the nick am sticking with for my niece): What happened?
She1 {looking in the direction he was looking at}: Its an accident baby.
Ninno : What happened?
She1 {a bit louder to stress on previous statement}: Accident!
Ninno : What happened?
She1 and She2 {Grrrrr}: Its an Accident!!!
Ninno : Yes! But what kind of accident is what I am asking! Accident can be any sort of accident!

The 7yr old reminded us again how closed our views are!

Replacements

She {with a radiant smile}: A replacement always comes by.

She was speaking about a new entrant. But the reason I am reminded of this line is.... I wanted the English translation for a line in Malayalam.

Thats when he helps me... :-) You bloody "Smiling Vandel".... Thank You... for helping me... :-) :-*

Will you help me with the translations of some Malayalam movie songs? O:-) ;;-)

Forgive Me

"Samastha aparadhangalum poruthu maappu nalkane"

I overhear this during my recent temple visit. This can be loosely translated to 'Exonerate my entire wickedness'. The Malayalam word for 'Fogive Me' also features in this line.

When I turn my head to the source of these lines... I was amazed.. it came from an old lady, probably a few years younger to my grandmother. She did not look like someone who would have sinned much. Yet... the emotions... the tone she used... or was it aura of the place we were at... something struck within me.... and...

Kavilamma walks towards me... rests her palm on my shoulders... her face glowing with her mile long & whispers into my ears..... This is how you plead for forgiveness.... she holds onto her mile long... squeezes my shoulders & walks back......

Random Quote

Read this somewhere recently...

"Only know your lover when you let her go"

Hmmm... Or when she decides to walk out on you! But yes... they do have a point. The lengths He travels to get the girl back does speak volumes about Him.

Kiddo... the arduous journey that He traveled for me is whats helping me hang onto those pure emotions we had for each other... :-) :-*

Thats also what I try to remember when you make things difficult for me.... :-P

Adopted

Me {to the mirror on the wall}: I refuse to be where I am today. I am not going to stretch myself too thin but I definitely am NOT going to stay stationary for another minute.

Kiddo is on a long vacation, away from me. And since she left.. life has been a slow motion. After two days of slow motion I decided to snap out of my slumber. That was when i give in to her invite. I packed my bag and left for my friend's place.

All the events... starting Friday evening... was a revelation for me... It was liberating..... And I shed a few more of those excess baggage I was carrying........... :-)

The presence of a long lost friend was the icing on the cake. My friends were kind enough to adopt both of us... gave us space in their home... and most importantly.... tolerated the noise that comes with the lot named friends...

I am wishing everyone around  & myself a liberating & 'dil se' types smiling week ahead.....

My dear kind friends.... Mmmmmmmmmuah! I love you guys... :-) :-* Yes! Right on your forehead :-)

Free Flowing Weekend

You know what???? It is equally exciting when you don't have a plan!

Normally, every Dussera I have a plan. A plan on what to do, where to go, with whom etc. And these plans varies from visits to relatives to dental surgeries.  This would be one Dussera where I had absolutely no plan. But... when I look back... it was equally exciting to have no plans at all. I just took things as they came & allowed myself to move with the flow.

Last evening, while I was watching the sky lose its brightness... I could feel every single muscle in my body screaming out for that much needed rest.  But... I had the best 'Krishna Smile' I had ever had in years.

Guyz.... all of you... Thanks a ton... for bringing me to my today....... :-)

PS.
Krishna Smile would need a post on its own. Hope that post will happen soon.

Checked!!

He : Do you want it? I can ask my cousin to get it for you. He is coming next week.

The trail seemed too long to my liking. But the No I stuck to meant a rather long wait. Moreover, I wasn't sure if I felt the same way towards the whole thing. All I can tell right now is.... the wait was soooo worth it. It had twice the kick as I would have otherwise had.... :-)

I am good for a very long time to come... :-) Time, as defined or redefined by me... ;-) :-D

In Pursuit of Icecream

She : Come! Lets go out!

This was her response when she catches me locked up in the house with minimal light source & listening to songs & drifting around in the slow zen like mode. She was not supposed to be home today. So, I was immersed in my solo time with myself. Thats when she interrupts me with her enthusiasm. I had already laid my plans for a slow evening & thats when she drops alternatives... :-/

And finally she drops those magical words - Ice Cream! The next thing I know, she has me out of the apartment.

Well... stepping out was soooo worth it. She had called another friend of hers too. All three of us went out on a drive & had some street food & ice creams. It was awesome! Thank you my dear... for being patient & helping me move my lazy *** :-D

Oooo... I love this city... It just allows one to be exactly what they want to be at that moment... :-)

Spine Tale

They keep repeating these in all the yoga sessions.....

Keep your spine straight!
Tuck your tummy in
Look forward
Raise your chest
Bring your stomach to thigh

Based on the asanas we are performing, the instruction keeps changing. All these are to aid the spine reach its actual position. My interpretations would be... instructions that aid us to make the spine strong & breath naturally....

Today... while I was practicing... I wonder about these instructions... And I suddenly understand the impact of the casual phrase in our place... which loosely translates to 'spinless creature'.... from a completely different plane....

People might consider otherwise... But... I would consider myself to be the owner of one strong & supple spine. And a proud owner too.

Kiddo... You might want to take note of this fact... You may never know when & where you will have to rely on your spine... It also helps in weeding out.......

Kiddo {after trying her best at retracing the events of the day}: Let me open my mind shop.

Oh! These Martians

He {pointing to a glass, with his fingers touching the glass}: Wify! Can you get me some water? Here is the
glass.

Please note, he was only pointing to the glass, he did not take the glass to his wife. He was pointing out to his wife, this is where you can find glasses. And I think out loud... Are men wired to do these things or do they acquire these traits the moment they get tagged 'The Husband'?

Dil Dauda Dauda

Kiddo {while we were cooking with the FM on}: How can that be possible? How will the heart run?
Me {all excited, with eyes lit up & a beaming smile}:Oooo... It does happen baby... It does happen...
Kiddo : But how can that be? Will the heart come out of the body & run?
Me : I dont know how to explain it... But you will understand it when you fall in love
Kiddo {with a long face}:But with whom will I fall in love?
Me : You may never know... You will get someone for that
Kiddo {her face growing longer}: But then what if he doesn't like me?
Me {now I am doing the daud looking for answers}: Then you dont jump into anything & keep looking for the one who likes you & whom you like.

This bit of conversation was inspired by the song lines 'Dil Dauda Dauda". I don't know which song these lines are from nor its movie.

Stay overs

She {all excited and high pitched}: So we can come & stay here every weekend????

This was her response to my mother's travel plans... :-D The mix of innocence in her voice & question did make me smile from some where deep within... :-) More importantly... the fact that bringing kids up does do strange things to people... Every body needs some sort of off-loading and at regular intervals.... :-)

I used to have a colleague. Whenever we play anthakshari during team outings, there are certain songs which will take you through a typical sequence. So, he skips all those & comes to the end of that sequence. This series of conversation... Yea... thats what I do now... Go with the flow wait for the "Oh!" part & then carry on with the regular conversation.

Day 10

I should call this done without much delay... :-/
