truth

Recently I read this ...

The truth that may be harsh to speak must be spoken with silence. Truth speaks with the eyes, with the smile and not merely the tongue. The truth is for you to know, for you to believe and not for you to prove to all.

I was reminded of a friend's comment - "Apreeyamaaya sathyangal parayandirikkuga(Please do not speak the truth if they don't please the listener)".

Sarva-Anga-Aasana

Since last Nov, two of my friends have been coming over to my place for yoga sessions. This post is for my friend who asked, "What are the benefits of Sarvangasana?"

Well... as the name suggests, it is a Sarva(every) Anga(organ) Aasana(exercise). It benefits the whole of the body. Sarvangasana is called the queen of all aasanas. There are two things I would like to explicitly mention about this aasana.

Since you are standing on your shoulder, it eases the blood flow towards the upper part of the body. Heart finds it easier to pump blood into your brain. Moreover, the blood from the lower part of your body reaches the heart easily thereby enhancing its performance.

Your thyroid glad gets a nice workout. Considering the increasing number of lady friends suffering from thyroid issues, I would say, this is one aasana that should not be missed.

If you haven't tried this ever in your life, please try it in the presence of an experienced trainer.

how to demonstrate affection

Some people just don't know how to show affection & care. Then there is another category that tries hard to show that they care & it all comes out in the wrong way. One of our friend falls under the second category. Even the most angelic among us is unable to bear the remarks made by this friend on her bestest days.

Recently, I had been to this friend's house with my child. While we were busy having lunch, this friend comes down & unclear about how to acknowledge that he has noticed my presence, makes the comment :
"L .... Its your stomach. Eat how much ever you want."

Kiddo unfamiliar with our friend & his nature, asks : "Amma, you will anyways eat how-much-ever you want. Then why is this uncle asking you eat how much ever you want?"

women liberation??

On Makara Jyothi, I had been to an Ayyappan Temple with a couple of friends. Like any special occasion related to the temple, this day too had lot of stalls near by. Since I had lost my prayer book, I stopped at one of the book stalls to check for its availability. While I was searching for my special prayer book, the person in charge of the book stall handed me the book - Vanitha Vimochanavum Hindu Sthreethvayum (Women Liberation and Hindu Womenhood).

To be honest, I was taken aback by this gesture of his. I just couldn't stop thinking, what could have been his thought process behind this action? Do I look like someone who needs help with the liberation part? Did he think that I could relate to what is written in this book? Did he think I need help relating to other Hindu women? Now, I would never know. And for some strange reason, I am happy speculating about the various possibilities rather than have had asked him & received a finite answer.

hazardous material????

My friend, after she sorted all her issues with the RTO, Bangalore says .... "I don't think anything worse could have ever happened! "

That was when I narrated her the story. A story where a 'girl', travelling with her mother, had to go to the police station in a sleepy little village of Kerala. Her offense - she 'man handled' a 40+ year old man. If you think I am going to spice up your life by telling you HOW she manhandled him, sorrieeee, you are in for a disappointment. The tragedy here is that her mom too had to make this visit to the police station along with the girl. Mom thought her daughter had lost her marbles and needs serious medical attention :)

What more, this was not the first time someone has been placed in a catch-22 because of the girl.

Now my friend is silently offering her prayers to her favorite God ... "Thank you God for keeping me away from this hazardous material!!!"

Wake up, Get ready & Get going ....

Towards the end of November, 2011, a close friend of got into trouble with the RTO, Bangalore. She was driving a car which was registered outside Karnataka. Her offence - driving a vehicle in Karnataka for long period of time without paying the road tax in Karnataka. The RTO, Bangalore confiscated her original driving license.

Since my friend is single, uncommitted and alone in this huge city, she was bombarded with numerous options & suggestions & work arounds & what nots from relatives, friends & every other person who happens to hear her story. Do you remember the scene where Harry Potter visits the LeStrange's vault in 'The Deathly Hallows"? Yea, my friend was the Harry Potter & the suggestions were the treasure that kept multiplying uncontrollably. Amidst this confusion she submitted her supporting documents & the penalty amount to an agent who handles these kind off issues.

For one whole month people have been calling her & inquiring about the status of her original driving license. As a bystander, I could see that she was being bullied by everyone around & not even a single person actually came across with a solid piece of information or help that she could use to get her out of this situation.

Finally when 2012 dawned, she woke up from her slumber, blocked out all the junk info she still has been forced upon with and decided to take charge of her things herself. Its been 6weeks since the incident. But it was only when she decided to take charge that things started moving. For a person watching all this from the peripheral, I was reminded of the story of the lark and her young ones.

not until i cut the cake!!!

Today, my 5yr old is turning 6. While helping her to get dressed to school, I was telling her.
"You are a SIX year old BIG girl now. You should be doing these all by yourself from now on."

Kiddo {puppy eyed} : "I will turn 6 only when I cut the cake! Till then I remain a 5 yr old baby"

Happy Birthday Kiddo!
