Uff! Yeh Pineal Gland!!!

Pineal Glad degeneration!!

This is what Swami Sathyananda Saraswati repeats in his book 'Yoga Education for Children'. Well, it is too late for me now. But... May this article help you in aiding your decisions with your children.

"The pineal is a tiny gland located in the medulla oblongata of the brain. In yoga, it is closely linked with Ajna Chakra, the seat of wisdom & intuition. When the child is about eight years of age, the pineal begins to degenerate. This decay corresponds to the beginning of sexual maturation, precipitated by the release of hormones from the pituitary gland."

In another place, he says...
"In yoga, the pineal gland is said to be the physical correlate of Ajna chakra. Mystics & occultists refer to it as the third eye & the philosophers call it the supermind. The pineal gland is very active in children, but by the time they reach the age of eight or ten it begins to calcify, and in elderly people it has little or no role to play in life.
This is very unfortunate because in yoga the pineal gland is considered to be the controlling and monitoring station in the brain."

And then again......
"When the pineal gland starts to degenerate, the pituitary gland comes into action and the emotions shoot up. This is the reason why so many children become emotionally unbalanced and disturbed during their pre-adolescent and adolescent years. The pineal gland has a balancing influence on the activities of the brain, which keeps the whole brain in receptive order. Therefore, I found that those children in whom the pineal could still be commanded or monitored were much more receptive than those whose pineal gland was no longer active."

For those who still have the chance.... Start early for your child..... :-)

The Ocean

Vairagya was something I could not assimilate. I always leave these things to the Enlightened clan. Or it could be the image that I used to associate with this term - something that is immobile, unaffected, stable, sturdy... in short... a huge piece of stone!!

Maybe I am not meant to understand Vairagya at this point of life. Since its not my time to understand, I haven't yet bumped into the person who can explain it to me the way I would understand without losing its essence.

Today... I bump into this....

"For a short moment, some sad feelings, but never remains long. Within a few minutes or a few hours, and then it goes. So I usually describe something like the ocean. On the surface, waves come and go, but underneath always remain calm.

When The Lama said this... I do not even know if this is Vairagya... but I like His Ocean better that the Stone. If The Lama himself is an Ocean... I, a simple, normal human being, is definitely allowed to Meeeeee!!!

Thihahahahahahahahaha...

Effrontery

"Leaving everybody to wonder where she had learned her effrontery from.

And truth be told, it was no small wondering matter.

Because Ammu had not had the kind of education, nor read the sorts of books, nor met the sorts of people, that might have influenced her to think the way she did.

She was just that sort of animal."

I know two people who can now give an actual word for what they are seeing - Effrontery!!

Time for Rome?

"Acharya's simple joy vanished when he reached home and turned on the lights of the hall. He felt dirty and cheap. He sat in the leather armchair, too scared to go to the bedroom. The clothes Lavanya had discarded in a hurry before shutting her suitcase still lay tbere on the bed. Her bottles of homeopathic tablets were on the night stand. There was her treadmill too. Her things. They would be looking at him."
                          - Serious Men by Manu Joseph

So this is what a married man who decides to stray feels like when he gets back to family. Hmmmmm.....

Vandal!! Is this a sign towards Rome?????????

Inadequacies of Language

"What he had in his mind was so simple & clear, but when asked for the first time, to express it through the inadequacies of language it seemed so difficult and even plebeian."
                                 - Serious Men by Manu Joseph

I normally get excited over concepts like 'inadequacies of language'. But...
3 consecutive days
3 different people... probably the only people I interacted with on that particular day!!
4 different scenarios

Thanks to my lack of understanding of grammar & constructs.... Nobody understood what I was saying.

Now that I am aware of this shading in me... I can see the amount energy spent behind each one of my interactions... People do not understand me... the explanation loop just goes on & on & on...

Maybe its time I went into a MaunaVritham to save this world from unwanted brain transactions & energy expenditure. And it starts.................................

Shunya Mudra

Hearing problems are related to a person who is no longerbable to hear or even doesn't want to hear. This can be a blessing or a catastrophe. Poor hearing can protect us from unpleasant things or even from disagreeable sounds or information that find their way into us. On the other hand, we can also no longer hear beautiful things. Not wanting to hear is sometimes based on a particular kind of stubbornness that can lead to disaster. Consequently, if we are willing to scrutinise the reason for our hearing problems, this can lead us one step further towards a richer life.

Relationships

Our fellow human beings are our mirror! What we particularly like in others is what we also love within
ourselves. What we don't like about others, we also reject within ourselves. We will encounter same people over and over until we have learned this lesson. When we are ready, people in our lives will change accordingly, or will disappear from our environment, others will take their place. This may sound hard, but it is unfortunately true. Isn't it true that other people frequently live out what we don't permit ourselves to do? Some people annoy us with their behavior. Perhaps they are premature in their judgments, verbally attack others, are hurtful in their thoughtlessness, don't really listen, make us nervous with their restlessness, think they know it all better, are mistrusting - the list is almost endless. How do we act and react? For quite some time now, I have been trying to decode the messages conveyed to me through other people for myself. How am I? How do I behave? What impression do I make on others? In doing this, I get to know myself better and have the opportunity to change. Sometimes we are afraid of other people and their reactions, which is why we let ourselves be manipulated and exploited. Or, by being on "good behavior" and serving others, we want to make them love us.

Marriage

Marriage has its good side. It teaches you loyalty, forbearance, tolerance, self restraint, and other valuable qualities you wouldn't need if you stayed single.

Not Mine

"They're not my sheep any more," he said to himself, without nostalgia. "They must be used to their new shepherd, and have probably already forgotten me. That's good. Creatures like the sheep, that are used to traveling, know about moving on."

Instant Acceptance

Father tend to first say "No" to any new proposal. His attitude toward the strange woman who so readily enlisted Mother's sympathy was an example of his customary caution. Aversion to instant acceptance - typical of the French mind in the West - is really only honoring the principle of "due reflection". - Excerpt from Autobiography of a Yogi.

Aversion to instant acceptance or instant submission... Yea! I know that very well... Due reflection... Hmmm... I am not even aware whether I do it......

Apana Mudra

"This mudra supports the removal of waste materials and toxins from the body, as well as eliminating urinary problems, according to Keshav Dev." - An excerpt from Mudras, Yoga in your Hands.

Now I know... Why is my system is rejecting food that is not cooked at home, especially non-veg food not cooked at home? I have been experimenting with the Apana Mudra... :-)

;-) O:-) :-D

Pure Matter

"If what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil. And one can always come back. If what you had found was only a moment of light, like the explosion of a star, you would find nothing on your return."

Reminds me of the butterfly quote... :-D

Hmmm.. Today a friend had called me up & was expressing her hopes. My dear hopeful friend... that would be one butterfly down :-)

Viparyaya vritti?

"I am like everyone else - I see the world in terms of what I would like to see happen, not what actually does." - An excerpt from The Alchemist

Reflected image

"In the depths of his eyes, my own beauty reflected."

Caught your breath? Calm now? Now have that glass of water! :-D I still haven't evolved to decode something like this even if it slaps me... I shamelessly flicked it from a book :-D Thanks to book store visit I made with  my friends :-)

But my question is... what will happen to the protagonist when there are no 'his eyes'? =-O

Vairagya

"Vairagya is putting stop to the craving for happiness.

If you examine yourself whenever you are miserable or unhappy, you will find that the misery is due to your desire to be happy.

Happiness is a mere idea in your mind. You think if you have something, you will be happy. " - Commentary on Patanjali's Yoga Sutra by SSR

Okay! Okay! Now wipe that grin off your face :-P

Vikalpa

Baseless fears in the mind or fantasies are called vikalpa.

Viparyaya & Vikalpa are indeed a dangerous combination.....

Proofs!

"Proof is connected with logic, and logic is very limited in its purview. It is the same with enlightenment and with love. Love cannot be proved or disproved. Someone's actions and behaviour is not a proof of love." - Commentary on Patanjali's Yoga Sutra by SSR

Its actually true that one interprets things the way they want to. Imagine telling "Someone's action and behaviour is not a proof of love" to a person high on negativity...

OMG!! The complexities of human mind!!

Viparyaya Vritti

viparyaya = error; false perception; false knowledge

"You will think things are the way they are not. Most of the time you impose your own views, ideas and feelings on others. You think that this is how the things are. This activity of the mind is called viparyaya. You may have an inferiority complex and, thereby, consider someone's behaviour very arrogant. Actually, they are not arrogant, and you are not being ill-treated by them. But you feel that you are being ill-treated by them. You feel that you have not been respected. It is because you do not respect yourself enough that you think that the others do not respect you. This tendency of your mind is viparyaya." - Commentary on Patanjali's Yoga Sutra by SSR

From pramaana (proofs) to viparyaya. I agree with the concepts... but how does one get out of these? Is there anyone wise enough to help the troubled soul? Is there anyone strong enough to lend a helping hand? Is there someone who is strong & wise & brave to..........

Kavilammeeeee....
